Should My Glasses Match My Personality as Well as My Face?
Share
Absolutely!
When people ask me how to choose glasses that suit them, they often expect me to talk about face shape.
Round face, square glasses.
Square face, round glasses.
But honestly, choosing the right glasses is about so much more than face shape.
I could put a frame on you that technically ticks every box. The proportions could be right, the bridge could fit beautifully, the colour could complement your skin tone and the shape could balance your features perfectly.
But if you look in the mirror and think…
“They’re just not ME.”
Then, as far as I’m concerned, they’re not the right glasses.
Your glasses are part of your personality
Think about where your glasses sit.
Right in the middle of your face!
For many of us, we put them on first thing in the morning and wear them all day. They become one of the first things people notice about us.
So why shouldn't they reflect a little bit of who we are?
When I’m styling someone, I’m not just looking at the shape of their face. I’m looking at their colouring, eyes, hair, features and proportions, but I’m also getting to know the person behind the glasses.
Are you bold and confident?
Classic and elegant?
Creative and quirky?
Soft and understated?
Do you love colour?
Do you want people to notice your glasses, or does the thought of wearing something bold make you want to run for the hills? 😂
All of that matters.
“I just want something that disappears…”
I hear this quite a lot.
Some people come to me after years of choosing glasses they hope nobody will notice.
They automatically reach for the same safe black, brown or neutral frame because that's what they've always worn.
And sometimes that's absolutely right for them.
But sometimes it isn't.
I'll introduce a colour or shape they would NEVER have picked for themselves and suddenly their whole face changes.
Their eyes brighten.
They smile.
They look in the mirror again.
And then I hear those words I love…
“Ohhhh… I actually LOVE these!”
That's the magic for me.
It isn't about convincing someone to wear the brightest glasses I can find. It's about discovering something they might never have considered and seeing their confidence shine through when we get it right.
What if I love bold glasses?
Then let's have some fun!
Your glasses can be an incredible way to express your personality.
Colour, shape, texture and unusual design can all make a statement without you saying a word.
But even with a bold frame, I still want it to work with you, rather than overpower you.
There's a difference between people noticing your fabulous glasses and people only seeing the glasses.
I always want to see YOU first.
What if I'm more understated?
That's absolutely fine too.
Great eyewear styling doesn't mean everyone should wear bright, colourful statement frames.
If your personality and personal style are more classic, elegant or understated, we can find something beautiful that reflects that.
Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference — the perfect tone, an interesting texture, a softer shape or a frame that simply fits your face beautifully.
You don't have to shout to have style.
Should I follow eyewear trends?
Trends can be great inspiration, but I don't believe you should choose glasses simply because they're fashionable.
A frame might be the hottest style of the year, but if it doesn't suit your colouring, fit your face properly or feel like you, what's the point?
I'd much rather find you a pair of glasses that you still absolutely love when the latest trend has moved on.
Style is personal.
And your glasses should be too.
How do I find glasses that feel like me?
This is where an Eyewear Styling Consultation is very different from simply walking up to a wall of hundreds of frames and trying to work out where to start.
I take the time to get to know you.
I want to know about your lifestyle, what you wear, what you love, what you don't love, what you've worn before and how you'd like to feel in your new glasses.
Sometimes I'll choose something you would have picked yourself.
And sometimes I'll hand you a frame and you'll look at me as though I've completely lost the plot. 😂
Trust me and try it on!
You might hate it — and that's useful too, because every reaction tells me something.
Or it might be the frame you put on and suddenly can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror.
Your glasses should look like they belong to YOU
Ultimately, I don't want to find you a pair of glasses that simply “suit your face.”
I want to find the pair that fits beautifully, works with your colouring, complements your features, suits your lifestyle and feels like you.
Because when all of those things come together, something lovely happens.
You stop thinking about whether you look good in glasses.
You just know you look good. 💜
So, here's the question I'd love you to think about:
If your glasses could describe your personality, what would they say about YOU?
And if the answer is “not very much!” perhaps it's time to discover what else is out there.
If you're ready to find glasses that really feel like you, I'd love to help.
